Grain packages your meeting transcript with participant context, past meeting history, and private notes into a format AI tools can use immediately. You can send it directly to Claude or ChatGPT, copy it to your clipboard, or download it as a Markdown file.
Where to find it
Open any recording. In the top-right corner of the recording page, you will see the AI Transcript Actions button. Click the dropdown arrow to see all available actions.
Actions
Open in Claude: Opens a new Claude tab with a prefilled prompt and a link to your transcript. Claude fetches the transcript and is ready for your question.
Open in ChatGPT: Same as above, for ChatGPT.
Copy transcript for AI: Copies the enriched transcript to your clipboard as Markdown, ready to paste into any AI tool.
Download transcript for AI: Downloads the transcript as a .md file. Filenames follow the pattern YYYY-MM-DD_meeting-title.md.
Set a default action
The button remembers your last-used action and sets it as the default for future recordings. To change it, open the dropdown and select a different action — that becomes the new default.
What is included in the transcript
The transcript Grain sends to AI tools is more than a conversation log. It includes:
Meeting info: title, date and time, duration, and a link back to the recording in Grain.
Participants: each participant's name, role, how many times you have met with them, and links to the three most recent meetings you have had together. Those links point to enriched transcripts for those meetings, so an AI can follow them to get the full history without you having to paste it.
Previous action items: outstanding action items from your last meetings with the same participants appear near the top of the file. The AI sees what was supposed to happen since your last conversation.
Your private notes: notes from your Grain notepad for the recording are included, giving the AI your personal context alongside the AI-generated content.
Full transcript: the complete speaker-labeled, timestamped transcript in clean Markdown.
Link expiration
When you use "Open in Claude," "Open in ChatGPT," or "Download transcript for AI," Grain generates a secure temporary link tied to your account and that specific recording. These links expire after approximately 10 minutes.
If a link expires before you use it, return to the recording page and generate a new one.
Other transcript formats
The AI-optimized Markdown format is separate from Grain's standard transcript exports. VTT, PDF, DOCX, and SRT downloads are unaffected and continue to work as before.
Disabling AI Transcript Actions
If your organization does not allow sending meeting data to external AI tools, the AI Transcript Actions buttons can be hidden for your entire workspace. Contact Grain support to enable this.
