Grain is listed in the Microsoft 365 Copilot Connectors Gallery as a federated connector. Once your admin approves it, you and your team can pull meeting transcripts, notes, and action items into Copilot Chat, Copilot in Excel, and the Researcher agent.
Connect Grain to Microsoft 365 Copilot
Grain is a Microsoft-approved federated connector, listed in the Productivity category of the Connectors Gallery. Turning it on is a one-time setup by a Microsoft 365 admin, and it applies to your whole tenant.
In the Microsoft 365 admin center, go to 'Copilot connectors', then 'Your connections'.
Find 'Grain' in the list and review the connector details.
Approve Grain for your organization.
Once approved at the tenant level, each person on your team connects their own account.
Open Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat.
Select the ellipsis ('...') menu, then select 'Settings'.
Select 'Sources' in the left pane.
Find 'Grain', select 'Connect', and complete authentication.
Grain data becomes available anywhere Microsoft 365 Copilot supports federated connectors: Copilot Chat, Copilot in Excel, and the Researcher agent.
Note: Admins can limit the rollout to specific Microsoft Entra ID groups using 'Add staging' in the Staged Rollout column, instead of enabling Grain for the whole tenant at once.
Test the connection
Once you've connected your account, confirm Grain is working before relying on it.
Open Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat and start a new conversation.
Select 'Sources', then confirm 'Grain' appears and is turned on.
Ask a simple test prompt, for example, "What was my most recent Grain meeting?"
Check that Copilot's response references specific meeting details rather than a generic answer, which confirms it actually called Grain rather than answering from general knowledge.
Note: If Copilot doesn't return meeting details, confirm your account is connected under 'Sources' and that your admin has approved Grain at the tenant level. If you were recently added to a staged rollout group, it can take a few minutes to take effect.
What Grain can do inside Copilot
Once connected, you can ask Copilot about a meeting the same way you'd ask about any other connected source, for example, "What did we agree on with Acme Corp in our last call?" Copilot calls Grain in real time to pull the transcript, AI notes, or action items behind the scenes. No meeting data is indexed into Microsoft 365; every response is fetched live and respects your existing Grain permissions.
Microsoft only enables read tools for federated connectors. You can search and fetch Grain meeting data through Copilot, but you can't create clips or use other write actions with Copilot.
FAQ
Can my admin control which groups get access to Grain in Copilot? Yes. Admins can enable Grain tenant-wide or limit it to specific Microsoft Entra ID groups through staged rollout in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
Does this add my meetings to Microsoft 365 search? No. Copilot fetches data live at the moment of a query. Mircrosoft doesn't index meeting content.
Why can't I create a clip from inside Copilot? Microsoft only enables read-only tools for federated connectors in the gallery, so actions like fetching a transcript or searching meetings work, but write actions like creating a clip don't.
Does this work the same way as connecting Grain to Claude or ChatGPT? It uses the same underlying Grain MCP server, but Microsoft 365 Copilot is acting as the MCP host instead. Setup happens once at the admin level for your tenant, and Copilot currently only supports read access to Grain's tools.
