Grain should automatically appear when a Zoom recording begins. There are, however, three common reasons why it may not.
1. Make sure you are recording
Grain only works when you record the meeting in Zoom. Just hit the record button in Zoom (Cloud or Local) and the Grain window will automatically open.
If you are recording and don't see the Notepad, try clicking the Grain icon in your top menu bar and click "Show Notepad" next to your meeting.
2. Make sure you are signed in to Zoom
In order for Grain to work you must be signed-in to Zoom. Sometimes Zoom will log a user out without notice. In order to confirm you are signed-in to Zoom select the "Sign In" menu item in the Zoom application and choose the account that you connected to Grain.
If you do sign-in during a meeting you will have to restart Zoom in order for Grain to work.
3. Make sure Grain's 'Zoom Recording Directory & Local Settings' match your Zoom Local Recording storage settings
When first setting up Grain on your computer, the application will request to monitor a folder for new local Zoom recordings. If you wish to change this folder location (or, have changed it already), you'll need ensure that both Zoom and Grain are pointed at the same folder for those local recordings to be noticed by the Grain desktop app. You can find this preference within Grain by going to 'Preferences' from the tray icon and selecting the 'App' tab.
If you are still having issues with Grain showing up, please try restarting the Grain application by going to the dropdown menu from the desktop app > Sign Out > Quit Grain > Sign back in. You can also reach out to customer support through chat or email (firstname.lastname@example.org).
