What desktop notifications does Grain send?
Grain sends one type of desktop notification: a pre-meeting reminder. One minute before a scheduled meeting starts, Grain pops up a desktop notification with a quick link to join the meeting.
How do I turn off Grain's meeting reminder notifications?
Open Grain in the desktop app or your web browser at grain.com and sign in.
Open your Settings.
Find the toggle labeled Show meeting reminders ("Get notified 1m before your meetings start with a quick link to join.").
Click the toggle so it turns off (gray).
That's it. You'll stop getting the 1-minute pre-meeting popup on your desktop.
How do I turn meeting reminder notifications back on?
Follow the same steps and click the Show meeting reminders toggle so it turns on (green). You'll start getting a desktop notification 1 minute before each scheduled meeting again.
Why am I not getting Grain meeting reminders even though the toggle is on?
If Show meeting reminders is turned on but you aren't seeing notifications, the cause is almost always at the operating-system level rather than inside Grain. Check the following:
On macOS:
Open System Settings → Notifications.
Find Grain in the application list.
Make sure Allow notifications is on.
Check that Focus / Do Not Disturb isn't silencing notifications.
Confirm your browser (Chrome, Safari, Arc, etc.) also has notifications allowed if you use Grain in the browser.
On Windows
Open Settings → System → Notifications.
Find Grain (or your browser, if you use Grain in the browser) and make sure notifications are turned on.
Check that Focus assist / Do not disturb isn't blocking notifications.
In your browser (if you use Grain on the web)
Open the site permissions for
grain.comand make sure notifications are Allowed.
If notifications are allowed everywhere and the toggle is on but reminders still don't show up, contact help@grain.com.
How do I stop getting Grain notifications entirely?
Turn off Show meeting reminders in your Grain settings. That disables the only desktop notification Grain sends.
If you want to silence Grain at the OS level too — for example, while keeping the in-app setting on — block notifications for Grain in:
macOS: System Settings → Notifications → Grain → turn off Allow notifications.
Windows: Settings → System → Notifications → Grain → turn off.
Does Grain have separate notification settings for the desktop app and the web app?
No. The single Show meeting reminders toggle controls Grain's pre-meeting reminder notification across both the Grain desktop app and the Grain web app. There is no separate desktop-only or web-only notification preference.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the desktop notification setting in Grain?
It's in your Grain settings, labeled Show meeting reminders. It's the only place to change desktop notification settings in Grain.
Can I change how far in advance the reminder fires?
Not currently. The reminder always fires 1 minute before the meeting starts.
Will I still get a reminder if I have Grain set to auto-record the meeting?
Yes — auto-record and the meeting reminder are independent. You can have either, both, or neither.
Does turning off meeting reminders affect recording?
No. Turning off Show meeting reminders only stops the 1-minute pre-meeting desktop notification. It does not change which meetings Grain records, how recordings are shared, or any other behavior.
What does this article not cover?
This article only covers Grain's desktop notification — the 1-minute pre-meeting reminder controlled by the Show meeting reminders toggle. Email and other notification types are handled separately.
